Hajira, an 8 years old girl from Kabul city of Afghanistan faced a tragic event in her life eight months ago. Kite playing is a famous game and fun activity in Afghanistan. Even the famous “Kite Runner” book has mentioned how young kids fly kites at a very young age in Afghanistan.
This beautiful little girl paid a higher price to fly a kite on her home rooftop. During her fun activity, the string of her kite was very sharp and it got tangled with electricity cables crossing over her home.
As she was pulling her kite back towards herself the exposed cable struck her body and she fell off the roof of her home. The electric shock was so strong that it left Hajira with devastating burns and injuries. She lost her one arm and limbs in the incident.
Hajira visited ICRC for the first time yesterday on 13th May 2019. She is very beautiful and has the most soothing smile ever. Hajira said, “Doctor, can you please get me new limb so I can walk again on this Eid”. Eid is an Islamic celebration after Ramadan, which is celebrated all over the country and it is a very special festival for kids.
We are hoping to make her dream of walking again come true before Eid. She is indeed a warrior and her attitude give us all new hope to be grateful no matter what.
